Garmin Updater mac beta
Fine my curiosity got the better of me. So a few clicks later I was in the process of updating my nüvi. I plugged the device into a usb port on the mac book pro.
The device starts instantly, mounts as a USB drive and begins charging the unit. Running the software was simple enough, starting with a double click.
It detected the nüvi and offered me an upgrade. Two version had past since my last update. Which I performed under Windows using Parallels.

I hit update. Agreed to a license deal after reading it thoroughly and checking it didn't infringe or impede any of my statuary rights.

Waited patiently for a download...

Fretted briefly for a few minutes...

ét voilà
I was then offered a bunch of other updates... I noticed the increased number of vehicles on offer. This is often pointed out to me as a dreadful failing of my GPS, yeah the lack of cars. I usually retort that my device has never steered my into a river.
The only real snag was the instruction by the software to "disconnect the device from your computer and allow it to start up." After following this instruction OS X scolded me for removing a drive without ejecting... bad M.
Nüvi then booted and spent some time playing with itself.

After a few minutes was fine and dandy... Cheers Garmin, welcome to the mac.
